Au P’tit Monde
Au P’tit Monde de San Francisco and Au P’tit Monde de la Péninsule are two French immersion preschools for children 2-5 years old. The lessons in the “Petite Ecole” and “Grande Ecole” take place entirely in French. Because of the way the brain develops in a child's early years, children are able to learn foreign languages much more easily at a younger age. From day one, APM Classes are taught using French immersion. Teachers utilize a combination of visual and verbal indicators when speaking, and students begin to understand and speak French right away. The first years in school are vitally important for establishing independent work habits and developing language and social skills. Our program is designed to provide a firm grounding in these areas while encouraging cognitive, emotional and physical growth. Children engaging in teacher-guided play will learn how to follow directions and cooperate, while developing gross and fine motor skills, self control, confidence and self-esteem.

Students enjoy the advantage of two caring, qualified teachers. The English-speaking teacher uses half of the instructional day to teach English language arts and other elements of the curriculum; the French-speaking teacher uses the other half of the day to teach French language arts and portions of the math, social studies, science, and other topics from the grade-appropriate level of the Utah State Core Curriculum. The Bridge Program offers an advanced language pathway for high school students who have passed the Advanced Placement (AP) Language and Culture Exam, “bridging” the gap between completion of the exam and higher education. Students begin upper division university language course work in the high school setting, where each 3-credit college course extends over a full academic year of high school. This rigorous and supportive environment establishes a university and career pathway in two languages, and seeks to promote access to bilingual, bilaterate, and bicultural citizenship in Utah. The French Bridge Courses are: Paris, City of Lights, Living in French, Invitation au voyage. They are all interdisciplinary advanced level courses co-taught by a university faculty and the high school teacher.
